KazThis week we’re featuring Katherine Matthews, who is better known as Kaz around the office. Kaz recently moved from a role in QA to a software developer.

How long have you been a part of the SkyKick Engineering team?

I started at SkyKick via an internship and was excited to be hired after the program, In all, I've been on the team now for a year and half.

What attracted you to SkyKick?

The amazing people and the company culture. Everyone is excited to be here and we get to work with cool technology.

What is your current role and which Product do you work on?

I work on the Migrations product and I recently moved from a role in QA to a software developer.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

My favorite part about my current role is the collaborative environment. All of my teammates want each other to succeed and if anyone has a question, someone always volunteers to help. On top of that, we push each other to learn and develop an amazing product.

What’s your favorite feature you helped build and why?

I’ve loved getting to work on updates to the Migrations planner. It’s a great feeling when we release a large update to even small usability improvements that make the planner more intuitive - because I know we’re making someone’s job so much easier. Our product owners are constantly engaging with Partners and cultivating feedback on how to further improve their experience.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I’m currently taking a data science certificate class right now. In my free time I enjoy playing soccer, improv, skiing, reading magazines, TV, facemasks, and traveling.

What is something about you that surprises people when they get to know you?

I love to sing random stuff. If it were appropriate, I’d speak by singing to people.

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

My gut response is flying, but then I think I’d be cold all the time from being so high up. One that would likely have no downsides would be the ability to talk to animals.

Other than building software, if you could do anything else what would it be?

I would be a traveling journalist, like the late Anthony Bourdain. He found success by being curious, adventurous, and telling a a great story - and got to see some many amazing places.
